Now they will be working on improving their own website http://www.wordpress.org and also maybe http://www.wordpress.com.

From v3, a new theme has been set as the default ‘Twenty Ten’.

As far as i can understand the reason for that was because they wanted to provide a new ready made template that takes complete advantage of all the new changes in wordpress version 3.
