I switched to Windows 7 sometime ago, it’s pretty amazing and of the best Operating System in my opinion after Windows XP.

I installed Apache and PHP along with MySQL, after testing and confirming the installation was successful, i shutdown my PC and went for nap, after getting back up i logged into Skype (which i also installed).

I thought i should work on a project of mine, when i noticed that Apache is not running working anymore!

I also tested out MySQL which was working perfectly normal, but something was wrong with Apache – The port that Apache uses (port 80) is already being used by another program, i found this out after a little bit of troubleshooting…

The culprit here is Skype! – Skype by default uses port 80 and 443 as it’s incoming connections, But the fix for this is pretty simple and straight-forward.

As shown in the above picture, all you have to do is Un-check the box which says use port 80 and 443 for incoming connections.

Free your system memory by using this simple trick.

Have you noticed that all your used system resources are freed up when you restart your computer? – Your system runs much faster after restarting that’s because it frees up all the system memory that was used in the last session.

Using this trick you can restart your system (free system memory) by just one click and it only takes only 5 secs.

Just follow the below instructions to get started:

• Right Click anywhere on the empty desktop and Select – New -> Shortcut.
• When prompted with a box to select a file,  Type or Copy/Paste this: -

%windir%\system32\rundll32.exe advapi32.dll,ProcessIdleTasks


• Then finally you can give your shortcut a name “Quick Restart” or anything you like.

In the end when its all said and done - all you have to do now is Double Click the newly created shortcut to free up your system / computer memory.

You can also change your shortcut icon to make it appear different on the desktop

Try this out when you feel your computer is starting to run slow.

Note:- It is best if you close any opened applications (if possible).

Recently when i opened Adobe Photoshop CS3 Extended, i came accross an error that was preventing me from selecting any controls.

The Hand Tool was selected by default and i wasn’t able to select anything else.

The solution was pretty simple, but took awhile to figure out.

• Close all adobe applications running then goto C Drive
• Open Documents and Setting Folder
• Then $USER Directory (This is your logon username)
• Open Application Data Folder
• Open Adobe Folder
• Finally you should see the folder Adobe Photoshop CS3 – Don’t delete it, instead rename it to something else (i.e Old_Adobe Photoshop Cs3).

Hopefully your problem should be solved

But hold on a second, i’ve noticed that some people have reported that using this method they get another error that says an error something like Something prevented the Text Engine. If thats the case continue reading below.

When you try to select the Text Tool from photohop and get this error – you should follow the below steps and your problem should be solved.

• Close all adobe applications running – Then Open C Drive
• Goto Documents and Settings
• Then $USER directory (Just like above)
• Open Local Settings Folder
• Open Application Data Folder
• Open Adobe Folder
• Open TypeSupport Folder
• Delete everything inside the TypeSupport Folder

Note:- Some directories are hidden by default so make sure to set the explorer to display all hidden files.

Microsoft’s® Windows XP has a Windows Registry Editor (regedit.exe) – Which i’m sure most of you are aware about?

This registry editor is quite useful incase if you ever want to disable certain things on your windows or delete un-necessary entries manually! (Which i sometimes prefer).

If for some reason it has been disabled on your computer which is often and mostly caused by a computer virus – Below are some methods that you can use to get back your precious Registry Editor!

The method we will be using is by Group Policy Editor – gpedit.msc:

gpedit.msc

1. Goto the Start Menu Then Run and Type gpedit.msc
2. On the left side Goto User Config -> Administrative Templates -> System
3. Now on the right side,  Select “Prevent access to registry editing tools”.
4. Regardless of the whatever its current value is Change its value to be Disabled.

Close the gpedit.msc window and try opening your Registry Editor… Check if it works? If not its probably because the setting might not have taken its effects yet! We can tell the computer to do so by going to Run again and Type Command in it – The Command Prompt should now be opened infront of you… Type gpupdate in the Command Prompt.

This will tell the Group Policy Editor – gpedit.msc to refresh its settings… Now try opening the Registry Editor once again! it should be working by now!

If for some reason the above procedure does not work for you – There are 2 additional methods you can do to fix this problem… But i’ll point that out when some one needs more help.

I have been betrayed by my computer again last night…

Last night, after checking my emails i was on Youtube looking at some Hardware Reviews and also Sony PlayStation 3 games which i was going to put on Mixcat Videos, I put my headphones to listen to what the guys were talking about in the video and noticed there’s no sounding coming.. :s

(By the way – I’m using Windows XP Professional – SP2).

Suddenly, i noticed that there’s no Volume Control Icon in the Taskbar either – I then went to the Device Manager and saw that there was a Conflict Icon on 2 of the Devices… 1st). was the Sound Card Device and 2nd).was the GamePort Device.

I went into the Properties of each devices and saw a message saying “Device Cannot Find Enough Free Resources (Code 21)“.

I clicked on Troubleshoot tried everything that it said and it didn’t work. The Windows Default Help and Troubleshooting Guide is nothing but waste of time!

I’ve had to waste hours of my time reading “Microsoft’s Waste Of Time Help Guide” which didn’t help solve anything.. Afterward i did a Google Search on with this in the search box “Device Cannot Find Enough Free Resources (Code 21)” – Didn’t find anything useful there either.

I tried removing my Sound Card and then Reinstalling it again but that didn’t work either,  The drivers were also up-to-date.

After hours of brain-storming and hitting my head i finally got an Idea – i thought i should try and change the PCI Slot of the Sound Card. Which i did i had the Sound Card on the 3rd Slot while the 2nd Slot was empty! I had AGP on the 1st Slot – I used to have a Spare Ethernet Lan Card on the 2nd Slot but since i changed my ISP, i didn’t need it any longer so i removed it but forgot to put the Sound Card on the 2nd Slot.

But i’m still confused how did this problem suddenly happen… It was working fine all these weeks and suddenly… It stopped working! I couldn’t figure out the issue that caused it but at-least its working now..

While i was searching on Google – I noticed that many other people were having similar issues but i didn’t see any working solution for this problem and that is why I’m writing about it here.

I also found out that this problem does not only happen with Sound Cards it could also happen with your Graphic Adapter 3D Accelerator Card / AGP / PCI Express – USB and Printer Slot too!

Although solution for other devices listed just above could be different, you could also try the method i used and it might work! if not please do post about it and let us know.

Recently my computer was hit by a virus attack, as a cause of that some very important aspects of my windows installation was restricted / tampered with.

I was thinking of doing a re-installation of windows xp but then again it was just too much for me at that time, was very cold and i wasn’t feeling well either.. so i just had to get into the core of the problem.

I managed to fix the issues by doing some tweaking.

Issue #01 – Windows Explorer Tool Option Missing in Microsoft Windows XP!

The windows tool options is a very important aspect of your Windows, it allows you to modify various settings including and most importantly your file-types. if you are having the same problem with your Windows. Follow the below instructions and it’ll be dealt with.

1. Goto run and type “gpedit.msc“.
2. Look for User Configuration > Administrative Templates >  Windows Components > Windows Explorer.
3. Enable it first and then Disable “Removes Folder Options menu from Tools menu“.
4. After-wards close all the Windows Explorer or any other Windows and see if that works, it most probably should.
5. Done!

If you are still having the problem, there is another workaround but this method requires you have access to your windows registry (“regedit.exe”). Follow the below instructions to use the registry method to fix the windows tool options.

1. Goto run and type “regedit.exe“.
2. Goto the following key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows
\CurrentVersion\policies\Explorer
3. In your regedit.exe right hand panel you should see a value called NoFolderOptions change its value to 0.

0 means to disable it and 1 means you want to hide it. let me know if the above solutions worked for you as it will make me happy know that.
