Those of you not aware, Firefox 4 was just recently released. I just downloaded and installed it a few hours ago and found it quite amazing. Though it has adopted the Google Chrome Visual Style alot for the Interface (Like how the menus and tabs are displayed, etc…) But, there was something odd which i noticed in Firefox 4 which is that the “Save Tabs on Exit” Confirmation Dialog Window is no longer being displayed when closing Multiple Tab Windows, it used to do that prior to Firefox Version 4.

The first thing i did after noticing this behavior was to type about:config in the address bar and look through to find something that might be the cause, while doing so i stumbled upon browser.showQuitWarning preference setting, which was the culprit. It is set as FALSE by default in Firefox 4 – so the solution is to simply change it to true and we’re done.

How to Fix It?

Below is the step by step process to fix this issue:

Type about:config in the address bar and hit the Enter button.

You see a warning page, just click the “I’ll be careful, I promise!” button to continue.

On the Filter Box, type or copy/paste browser.showQuitWarning

You should be able to see the setting in the list, all you have to do is right-click and click the Toggle Option or simply just Double-Click on the setting to toggle it to TRUE.

Once you have followed the above steps correctly, you will be re-united with your precious “Save Tabs on Exit” Warning Dialog – No Restarting Firefox Required

Let us know if this worked for you, and / or if you have some other useful Tips and Tricks for Firefox 4 to share.

The Question:

Some of you might be wondering, so what is a DNS Server and what can it do for me?

The Answer:

DNS stands for Domain Name System. You can often notice that using a third-party DNS Server will help improve your browsing experience. DNS helps you increase your browsing speed (and not your downloading speed), the time it takes to load a web-page are often improved using third-party DNS services such as Google & OpenDNS, but that isn’t always the case as sometimes your ISP may provide better DNS than these third-party ones.

The simplest task of a DNS is to translate host names such as (google.com) to a ip address like (221.120.207.29). But most of the third party DNS Servers provide more functionality and are much more secure and up to date than your ISP’s too, they are dedicated and well designed for DNS. Which can offer just more than the basic DNS functionality. Many use third-party DNS Services to bypass ISP’s Censorship.

For example: When your ISP blocked your favorite website (Facebook/Twitter) you can use a third-party dns to bypass that block.

When your ISP decides to block a certain website, it might prefer to block DNS requests for the site, rather than blocking the entire IP address. In such circumstances, using alternate, uncensored or “open” DNS servers can turn out to be an easy way to bypass that limitation.

Now that we have cleared that, I will be posting some good, fast and FREE DNS Servers below:

Google’s Public DNS Server

If you want you can read what Google has to say about the Google’s Public DNS.

8.8.8.8

8.8.4.4

OpenDNS DNS Server

208.67.222.222

208.67.222.220

DNSadvantage DNS Server

156.154.70.1

156.154.71.1

Pakistan’s PTCL Broadband DNS Server

202.125.132.12

4.2.2.2

203.135.2.117

119.152.255.60

119.152.255.70

Pakistan’s BrainNET DNS Server

203.128.7.10

Note:- I stated above but just like to clearly say again that changing your DNS will not improve your downloading speed.

Which DNS Server do you use? have something that isn’t posted above? let us know

Running Apache Web Server and Skype together in Windows 7 causes a conflict between the two programs.

I switched to Windows 7 sometime ago. It’s pretty amazing and one of the best Windows Operating System in my opinion after Windows XP.

This is was new windows installation; and i just installed Apache and PHP along with MySQL, after testing and confirming the installation was successful (Skype was not running at this moment), I shutdown my PC and went for a nap, after getting back up i logged into Skype.

I thought i should work on a project of mine, when i noticed that Apache is not running / working anymore!

I also tested MySQL which was working perfectly normal, but something was wrong with Apache. The port that Apache uses (port 80) is already being used by another program!. Causing a conflict i was able to figure this out after a little troubleshooting.

The culprit here is Skype! – Skype by default uses port 80 and 443 for it’s incoming connections.
But the fix for this was pretty simple and straight-forward.

As shown in the above picture, all you have to do is un-check the box which says use port 80 and 443 for incoming connections.

Once you do this, you can test your Apache web server and see that it is back up and running

About the Applications

Skype is a desktop instant messaging and voice software, similar to MSN Messenger and Yahoo! Messenger but is well know for its voice and calling capabilities, including free PC to PC calling.

Apache is a HTTP Web Server, majority of the web is using Apache to host our websites.

This little trick will allow you to switch your opened programs, pictures, etc, etc.. in 3D!

This little trick will allow you to switch your opened programs, pictures, etc, etc.. in 3D!

Something’s to note before you start is that you have Windows Aero enabled (otherwise this won’t work for you), i haven’t tried but i’m sure this trick would also work on Windows Vista since it also includes Windows Aero.

What we are going to do is create a shortcut that will allow us to use the 3D Flip (switch) feature with One Click – but there are other ways to use it for example the shortcut keys.

The first shortcut key is: Windows Key + Tab

You will have to hold down the Windows Key and Press the Tab to switch around different windows.

The second shortcut key is: Ctrl + Windows Key + Tab

You don’t have to hold down any keys to switch here, after pressing the keys you can use the Tab key to move around or you can also use the Up and Down keys to navigate as well – when you need to switch to a certain window you just click on it with your mouse or you can use the Enter key when that Windows or Program is in the front.

For your convenience i am providing a link to download the shortcut, just incase you don’t want to do it yourself.
Click here to download the Windows 7 Flip 3D Shortcut

To start creating the shortcut, follow the below instructions:

Right-Click on an empty space in your desktop goto New -> Shortcut (click it).

When the window opens up to ask you of a location enter this:
C:\Windows\System32\rundll32.exe DwmApi #105

Click on the Next button.

Type any name in the next window for your shortcut (it can be anything you want, for example – Flip 3D).

Done, That’s all there is to it.

The next following steps will take you through the process of giving the shortcut it’s icon.

Right click on the shortcut you just created and click Properties.

The window that pops up will have a button named Change Icon, click it.

Another pop up window appears, theres a text field type the following in it
%SystemRoot%\System32\imageres.dll

Press Enter

New Icons appear, the one we want is the first one in the list, which should be selected by default.

Click on OK, and we’re done.

For easier access i would recommend you PIN this to your taskbar, like in the below picture.

Requirements to use Windows 7 Aero Feature:

1 GHz 32-bit or 64-bit processor

1 GB of system memory

A graphics card with support for DirectX 9 graphics with at least 128 MB of memory.

The graphics card must support Pixel Shader 2.0 and the Windows Display Driver Model (WDDM).

You must be have True Color (32 Bit) set rather than High Color (16 Bit).

Rapidshare has grown to become the leading file sharing service online, users who are limited to non-premium user accounts are often presented with timers or some other limitations.

Recently users have discovered ways of bypassing the download limits and skipping the waiting time.

I have been starting to use rapidshare much more often these days – i tried out this method and it worked out perfectly fine. I tried this on IE 7, IE 8 and Firefox 3.0.7 without any issues.

Lets begin, continue reading below..

First open the web browser and enter your rapidshare download link.

When the page loads, you are given two buttons Free & Premium.

Click on Free – The next page loads and you see the timer starting like in the above image.

When you see that timer start just input this into your browser: javascript:alert(c=-1) and press ENTER.

The timer should disappear and now you can download easily without any waiting

Please do post your comments and let me know what happens

Free your system memory by using this simple trick.

When prompted with a box to select a file, Type or Copy/Paste the following:
%windir%\system32\rundll32.exe advapi32.dll,ProcessIdleTasks

Then finally you can give your shortcut a name “Quick Restart” or anything you like.

In the end when its all said and done - all you have to do now is Double Click the newly created shortcut to free up your system / computer memory.

You can also change your shortcut icon to make it appear different on the desktop

Try this out when you feel your computer is starting to run slow.

Note: It would be best if you closed any open applications before attempting this trick (if possible).

Recently when i opened Adobe Photoshop CS3 Extended – I came across an error that was preventing me from selecting any controls.

The Hand Tool was selected by default and i wasn’t able to select anything else.

The solution was pretty simple, but took awhile to figure out.

Close all adobe applications running, then open your C Drive.

Find and Open Documents and Setting Folder

Then $USER Directory (This is your logon username)

Open Application Data Folder

Open Adobe Folder

Finally you should see the folder Adobe Photoshop CS3. Don’t delete it, instead rename it to something else (for example: Old_Adobe Photoshop CS3).

Hopefully your problem should be solved

But hold on for a second, i have noticed that some people have reported that using this method they get another error that says something like Something prevented the Text Engine. If that is the case continue reading below.

Adobe Photoshop CS3 – Something Prevented The Text Engine Error

When you try to select the Text Tool from within photohop and get this error you should follow the below steps and your problem should be resolved.

Close all adobe applications running, then open your C Drive.

Find and Open Documents and Settings Folder

Then $USER directory (Just like above)

Then Local Settings Folder

Then Application Data Folder

Then Adobe Folder

Then TypeSupport Folder

Delete everything inside the TypeSupport Folder

Note:- Some directories are hidden by default so make sure to set the explorer to display all hidden files.

I hope this fixes your problem with Adobe Photoshop CS3 Extended – Please leave your comments if or not this has helped you resolve your problem.

Windows Registry Editor Disabled

Microsoft Windows XP has a Windows Registry Editor (regedit.exe) – Which i am sure most of you are aware about?

This registry editor is quite useful in many cases, specially if you ever want to enable or disable certain features on your windows or delete unnecessary entries manually. (Which i sometimes prefer).

If for some reason it has been disabled on your computer which is often and mostly caused by a computer virus – Below are some methods that you can use to get back your precious Windows Registry Editor!

The method we will be using is with gpedit.msc (Group Policy Editor):

Goto the Start Menu Then Run and Type gpedit.msc

On the left side Goto User Config -> Administrative Templates -> System

Now on the right side, Select “Prevent access to registry editing tools”.

Regardless of the whatever its current value is Change its value to be Disabled.

Close the gpedit.msc window and try opening your Registry Editor now. Check to see if it works? If not its probably because the setting might not have taken effect yet. We can tell the computer to do so by doing the following:

Go to Run again.

Type Command in it, The Command Prompt should now be visible and in-front of you.

Type gpupdate in the Command Prompt.

This will tell the Group Policy Editor – gpedit.msc to refresh its settings. Now try opening the Registry Editor once again. With any luck it should be working for you now

If for some reason the above procedure does not work for you – There are 2 additional methods you can do to fix this problem. But i will point that out when some one needs more help.

Thanks for reading and please do post your comments if this post has or hasn’t helped you solve your problem.

Hardware Error – Device Cannot Find Enough Free Resources (Code 21)

Last night after checking my emails, i was browsing Youtube looking at some Hardware Reviews and also Sony PlayStation 3 games, I put my headphones to listen to what the guys were talking about in the video and noticed there is no sound coming!

(By the way – I am using Windows XP Professional – Service Pack 2 right now).

Suddenly, i also noticed that the Volume Control Icon in the Taskbar is also missing. I then went to the Device Manager and saw that there was a Conflict Icon on 2 of the Devices.

was the Sound Card Device

was the GamePort Device.

I went into the Properties of each hardware devices and saw an error message saying “Device Cannot Find Enough Free Resources (Code 21)“.

I clicked on Troubleshoot tried everything that it said and it didn’t work. The Windows Default Help and Troubleshooting Guide is nothing but waste of time!

I’ve had to waste hours of my time reading “Microsoft’s Waste Of Time Help Guide” which didn’t help solve anything; Afterward i did a Google Search on with the following search term “Device Cannot Find Enough Free Resources (Code 21)“. Surprisingly i didn’t find anything useful there either.

I tried removing my Sound Card and then re-installing it again but that didn’t work either, The drivers were also up-to-date.

After hours of brain-storming and hitting my head i finally got an Idea – i thought i should try and change the PCI Slot of the Sound Card. Which i did, i had the Sound Card on the 3rd Slot while the 2nd Slot was empty. I had an AGP Card on the 1st Slot – I used to have a Spare Ethernet Lan Card on the 2nd Slot but since recently i changed my ISP i didn’t need it any longer so i removed it, but forgot to put the Sound Card back on the 2nd Slot.

But i am still confused how did this problem suddenly happen? It was working fine all these weeks and then all of the sudden it stopped working! I couldn’t figure out the exact issue that caused it but at-least its working now for me.

While i was searching on Google – I noticed that many other people were having similar issues but i didn’t see any working solution for this problem and that is why I’m writing about it here.

I also found out that this problem does not only happen with Sound Cards it could also happen with your Graphic Adapter 3D Card / AGP / PCI Express, USB and Printer Slot too!

Although solution for other devices listed just above could be different, you could also try the method i used here for my sound card and it might work. if not please do post about it and let me know.

Enjoy
